About Us
Spice Root produces certified organic, ambient products - spices, lentils, staples, superfoods and Ayurveda products.
We are a UK and EU based organic food company with roots in India. Our products are certified by Soil Association UK and SKAL Bio-Controle NL. We work closely with farming communities - with whom we share a common ethos that organic agriculture benefits everyone.
At Spice Root, we believe that food should be as nature intended – full of nutrition and without any artificial chemicals or additives. It should be good for you and the environment.
Our sourcing capability and process
Everything we consume has a story and these stories are a very important part of our process. We approach all our sourcing and procurement keeping in mind our responsibilities towards the farming community, the environment and biodiversity, and our customers. Our process of quality control, packaging and transport should be transparent to all.
We work directly with farming communities and sustainable agriculturists. This allows us to maintain quality control and consistency while minimising the impact of a multi-node supply chain. We avoid homogenous farming wherever possible and always prefer bio-diverse regions for organic procurement.
We strive for positive changes with minimal footprints.
Our farmer programs
Spice Root works with farmer groups in the Bundelkhand district of central India. This is an impoverished part of the country lacking in resources for farming communities. Our work with farming communities is through our zero-cost farming initiatives. Agriculturists are encouraged to join farming programmes where expertise and resources are available free of cost. Field teams are made available to provide support, knowledge and guidance - thus providing valuable inputs in real-time. This initiative has helped numerous small communities transform themselves into vibrant, larger, self-sustaining, organic farming communities.
Working as knowledge partners, the educational workshops focus on using the available resources efficiently. Visible positive changes inspire other farming communities to join hands with us, and we are always keen to grow our family of communities.
Production & Quality control
Spice Root products are certified organic by Soil Association (UK) and SKAL Bio-Controle (NL, EU). Our supply chain is certified organic. Products are sustainably sourced from organic farms to maintain quality and traceability. Products are processed and packed at EU certified facilities by trained professionals, with strict adherence to food standards and health & safety guidelines, using minimum processing - to ensure all nutritional goodness is retained. Our products are tested at third party laboratories for artificial chemicals and additives. Only the products adhering to the highest food standards are available to our consumers. Our products are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Organic Ayurveda
Spice Root has deep connections to Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medicinal science. At its core lies the belief that healthy food and nutrition brings balance to mind and body. Spice Root brings to its customers premium quality Ayurverdic and herbal products – such as adaptogenic Ashwagandha and Brahmi powders, immunity boosting Amla and vitality boosting Kapikachu and Shatavari. The products are of premium quality, processed with adherence to EU organic. Stay healthy with Spice Root!
Maa Society for children with special needs
Spice Root have partnered with “Maa Society” (Maa is Hindi for Mother), a school for children with learning disabilities and special needs. As part of their activities, regular farm visits are scheduled; helping the children learn about small scale farming and develop skills for independent garden farming. The school provides other forms of vocational training as well. It helps the children gain real-world knowledge and adds another dimension to their learning curriculum.
